Objective:
To reinforce safety consciousness and encourage employees to participate
in an accident-reduction program.
Strategy & Execution:
Scratch-off cards were issued to the 2,500 employees at the company's
Schaumburg, Illinois, plant when they completed seminars on hazards
and answered a quiz. Employees holding winning numbers could claim
prizes that included nylon duffel bags, mini-duffel bags, insulated
coolers and walnut note pads-all imprinted "Voluntary Protection
Program." And if they didn't have the winning numbers? No
problem-could get more cards for each month without an accident.
As reminders of the contest, key-shaped lapel pins, golf shirts
for supervisors and other promotional items were issued.
Results:
A 54% reduction in accidents enabled the company to save $800,000
in workmen's compensation payments and win the OSHA Star Award. |
